Week 3: Spinners Top the Charts

Update (4/27): Team pages and standings are now current through the games played on Friday, 4/26.

Week 3 Summary: Numbers have been run through the end of Week 3. The score for the average Lazyman team was 346.9 points on the week. Five transactions were made for Week 4. Over 85% of the teams have submitted their entry fee – thank you!

As the only team to break 400 points, the Spinners shot up the standings like “the Rubberband Man,” moving eight spots into 4th place. The team from Fortuna, CA, were led by hurlers Kutter Crawford (34), Luis Gill (34), George Kirby (34), and Casey Mize (32). Elly De La Cruz (37), Gunnar Henderson (33), and Julio Rodriguez (32) paced the hitters. Dan must be humming “I’ll Be Around” the top of the standings and “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love” with this team. Actually, I have no idea if Dan named the Spinners after the 60s/70s rhythm and blues group, but I have had fun singing the songs while typing this up. Dan – great week!

With 391 points, Snyde Remarcs of Cloverdale, CA, finished second in Week 3. The Remarcs moved from 10th in 6th place overall. The Remarcs had a quartet of players exceed 30 points – Ranger Suarez (48), Jordan Westburg (37), Luis Gil (34), and Kyle Glasnow (34). Tom – nice week.

There was a tie for 3rd most points. CAB’s Coolers (Ft. Bragg, CA) and Team Vizzini (Gainesville, CA) both put 390 points on the board. The Coolers maintained 3rd place overall and were led by Gil, Glasnow, Mize, De La Cruz, and Emmanuel Clase (34). Team Vizzini moved into 7th place and their top players included Mize, Westburg, Alec Bohm (32), and Craig Kimbrel (31). Charlie and Ken – well done.

Week 2: CABs Coolers Get Hot

Update (4/21): Numbers have been run through the games on Saturday, 4/20. A few official MLB scoring changes have impacted Lazyman point totals in the first two weeks. Check the Scoring Changes page to view.

Update (4/15): Welcome to Kevin and the Belmont Bums to the 2024 Lazyman season. Kevin suffered a serious injury the day before rosters were due. He had his roster mostly completed. I am allowing the Bums to join, for fun. He is not paying the entry fee and is not eligible for prizes. He needs something to do during his lengthy recovery – what better than fantasy Lazyman baseball? There are few players that the Bums selected that could have impacted exclusive players, but they will not. The Bums selected Mitch Keller and Mauricio Dubon, who are exclusive players. They will remain as exclusive players as published at the beginning of the season even though they are on the Bums roster. In addition, DJ LeMahieu, Carlos Estevez, and Emmet Sheehan were selected by the Bums, and appear on no other rosters. These players will not be exclusive players and are still free to trade for by other teams. Reiterating – the Belmont Bums will be tracked for points and in the standings for fun and to allow Kevin something to follow while recovering. Wish and pray for his speedy and full recovery.

Week 2 Summary: Holy Cow! What a week for Colton Cowser! Standings, Leaders, Transactions, and team pages are all current through the conclusion of Week 2, which saw the average Lazyman team score 360.4 points with four teams breaking the 400-point barrier. We are nearing 80% of owners who have submitted their entry fee. Thank you!

The gold medal goes to CAB’s Coolers from Ft. Bragg, CA. The Coolers scored 422 points and moved from 16th place into 3rd. Colton Cowser (51), Elly De La Cruz (40), and Vinnie Pasquantino (32) lead the hitting attack. Tyler Glasnow (32), Corbin Burnes (32), and Robert Suarez (30) paced the pitching staff. Charlie – great week!

Earning the silver medal is Stuff (Tarzana, CA) with a total of 420. Cowser, Michael Busch (33), and Anthony Volpe (31) tallied points from the box, while Graham Ashcroft (41), Nestor Cortez (32), Glasnow, and Suarez dominated from the hill. Stuff sky-rocked 27 spots in the standings and now sit in 16th place. Glenn – congratulations!

The bronze for Week 2 goes to Tanner’s Minions (Bel Aire, CA). The Minions posted 405 points, maintained 2nd place, and moved to within three points of Lewdo. Cowser (yet again), De La Cruz, Cortes, Glasnow, and Suarez led the way. Rich – nice week once again.

And, the fourth team to break 400 was Santa Rosa’s DeLaCrushers with 401.

Week 1: Lewdo Posts Lewd Numbers

Numbers have been run through the games on Saturday, April 13.

Week 1 Summary: Team pages, Standings, Player Leaders, and Transactions have all been updated through the end of Week 1. The average Lazy team put up 530.2 points during the week. The mean scores for pitchers was 35.4 while batters scored at a 35.3 clip. Nice balance. We are now over 70% of Lazyman teams with payment submitted. Thank you!

Lewdo (Rhonert Park, CA) got out of the gates in 2024 by topping the charts with 616 points, causing all the rest of us to be quite jealous. Lewdo was paced by Mookie Betts (78), Spencer Steer (56), Shane Bieber (54), Tyler Glasnow (49), Bobby Witt (44), and Maikel Garcia (40). Things weren’t all smelling like roses as Lewdo lost Bieber and Spencer Strider to injuries forcing a couple of early season trades. Lew – great start!

Tanner’s Minions (Bel Aire, CA) sits in second place by tallying 607 points, and the Minions don’t have Mookie on the roster. All five starting pitchers scored 40 or more points – Bieber, Tanner Houck (51), Glasnow, Garrett Crotchett (48), and Frankie Montas (41). Tyler O’Neill (53), Jarren Duran (45), and Seiya Suzuki (42) paced the hitting attack. Rich – very nice start!

Earning the bronze in Week 1 is Downtown Dachshunds (Seattle, WA) with 586 points. Betts, Steer, Glasnow, and Grayson Rodriguez (47) led the charge. Jacob – well done!

Beef and Broccoli (Cleveland, OH), Flop House Gas (Orinda, CA), and the Milk Duds (Everett, WA) round out the top six teams heading into Week 2.

2024 Lazyman – Play Ball!

Sunday, 4/7, 9:40 AM. Numbers have been run through the games on Saturday. Trades for Week 2 can be submitted prior to first pitch on Monday. Please check the Rules page to understand how trades work. I will be updating this post over the next few days to keep you informed of the progress of getting things up and running.

We have 49 teams this year, including six rookie squads.

Next up:
Opening Day Rosters page (3/29) – make sure I got your team right!COMPLETE

Delete old team pages and clean-up the website (Friday, 3/29)COMPLETE

Get the master spreadsheet working correctly – what an effort! (Saturday, 3/30)COMPLETE

Post new team pages and embed spreadsheet into web pages (Sunday, 3/31) COMPLETE

Triple check rosters on team pages (Sunday, 3/31) COMPLETE. I found a few errors. I am pretty certain all is correct, but, please double check your roster. Monday – another mistake was found. Ohtani is an exclusive player. Judge is not.

Post exclusive player list, player counts, standings and start running daily Week 1 points to make sure everything is working correctly (Monday, 4/1) – COMPLETE. Check out the Exclusive Players page and the Player Lists Alpha and Salary have been updated as well. Standings are now up. I will probably do daily updates with the numbers this week just to make sure all is working as it should.

Do accounting work. Many have paid already but I will take care of that later. You will get an email confirming payment (Tuesday, 4/2) – COMPLETE. If you paid, I sent you an email confirming. If you paid and didn’t get an email, let me know. We have over 60% of teams paid up and ready to roll. Thank you!

Team Logos?! IN PROGRESS, probably for a while. OK, I have never played with AI image generators. I started yesterday for fun. I think this adds a little flavor. Some errors I have needed to fix with graphics software, but I think they look pretty cool. I have images up in alpha order for Beef and Broccoli through Chug on their team page. Check them out. If you don’t like your logo, I will delete it. If you want to do you own logo, please send it to me via email and I will have it posted. A few years ago, I created logos for teams that requested it. It would take me two to three hours. These are getting done in less than 30 minutes, with edits due to AI errors. I disdain AI, until now. And, check out Team Vizzini’s self-done logo! Fun stuff.

Player counts are now up - Check out the Player Counts page. Don’t underestimate this information when deciding who to trade for,

Crunch Time

Update: Thursday, 3/28 at 9:20 AM. I have confirmed 34 rosters so far. I still have a bunch of teams to process. You will receive an email from me once I have confirmed your roster. Be patient. If you haven’t gotten a reply from me, you will – eventually. There is still time to get your team in. Fixes to incorrect rosters will be permitted after first pitch today.

I hope to have the Opening Day rosters posted on Thursday or Friday night. I will be out of town this weekend, so the team pages may not go live until Sunday or Monday. Stay tuned.

Lazyman Baseball 2024

3/19 “Play Ball!” will be shouted in the Lazyman game in a little over a week. Don’t get shut out – try to get a roster completed this weekend to tinker with until the deadline for submission, which is first pitch on Thursday, March 28. Yes – the Korea series between the Dodgers and Padres start tomorrow. Those stats will count in for points in Week 1, but rosters are not due until next week. Happy hunting.

Updates:
2/14 Lazyman Rules 2024 page has been updated
2/27 Salary List has been updated and uploaded for 2024
2/27 Alpha List had been updated and uploaded for 2024
2/29 Lazyman Team Maker has been completed and uploaded for 2024
2/29 Salary and Alpha lists have been updated with transactions from the last couple of days. No salary amounts have changed, nor will they change moving forward. Yikes.
3/2 Email sent to all with the Salary Lists and Team Maker attached
3/14 Lazyman introduction email sent out to forward to prospective new players

New for 2024
All MLB teams are scheduled to start the regular season on Thursday, March 28. There is a two-game series between the Padres and Dodgers set to take place in Korea on March 20 and 21. Those two games will be included in the Lazyman game even though rosters will not be due until Wednesday, March 27.

Line-ups are due Wednesday, March 27, at 11:59 PM. I encourage you to have your roster ready to go the previous weekend so that you aren’t caught by this mid-week deadline. And yes, line-ups will be accepted on opening day prior to first pitch.

We are keeping the three changes in the scoring that was adopted last year: 3 points for a Hold, 10 points for a Complete Game, and 10 points for a Shutout. The roster size increase to 45 players maximum and the salary cap increase to $55 million will also stay intact.

So, no rule changes for the 2024 season. With the increase in offensive production last year due to MLB rule changes, anticipate that pitcher salaries will come down a bit.

Peace,
Damon

Werp’s Crew Crowned!

I have completed the audit for the entire season. Sixteen changes were made. No official MLB scoring changes have come in the last few days, so I am calling the 2023 Lazyman season completed. Team pages, Leaders, and Standings are final. If you want to take a look at the scoring changes that were made as a result of the audit, they are highlighted in red at the top of the Scoring Changes page. No changes in the standings of the 1st-Half, but two or three teams swapped spots further down the standings in the Full-Year and 2nd-Half contests. An email announcing the prize amounts will be sent out soon. Thanks for a great season everyone!

And now the season summary, which will remain posted until the beginning of next year

Close to absolute domination by Werp’s Crew, which is owned by the rookie trio of Lofton, Barry, and Paul out of Santa Rosa, CA. We have never had a rookie team finish in the money, at least since I have been commissioner that I can remember. And this year, we had two. Jacob and his Downtown Dachshunds also did quite well finishing 3rd overall in his inaugural foray into fantasy baseball.

Well, here is the rundown of the top teams basking in the glory of triumph, ranked in order of prize amount.

#1 Werp’s Crew (Santa Rosa, CA)
Full-Year: 1st, First-Half: 3rd, Second-Half: 1st

This will be the largest prize that I have seen in my years as Commissioner. Werp’s Crew only had one week as the highest scoring Lazyman team, but always tallied near the top in a model of consistency.

How did they do it? Relative health – only seven players missed four weeks or more due to injuries that occurred during the season. In fact, the Crew didn’t have to trade for a hitter all season. Even more than being comparatively healthy, the owners drafted impeccably and had great seasons from some super studs found on the roster of the Atlanta Braves along with solid contributions from lower priced players, as if the Crew were in possession of a crystal ball.

Yes, there is Ronald Acuna, who scored in all but one week for the Crew and finished as the league MVP and top scorer, crushing Aaron Judge’s total from last year. But, they also had Matt Olson, the #2 scoring hitter in the league, and Spencer Strider, Cy Young winner and flame-thrower extraordinaire. The catchers were the top two scoring at the position and all-stars – Adley Rutschman  (48th) and William Contreras. Luis Roberts (28) and Max Muncy (44) were big cogs in the Werp machine, but it was really the value they found in the following gambles: Bryce Harper scored in all but four weeks after coming off the IL much earlier than anticipated, Tyler Glasnow scored in 12 weeks after missing the first third of the season, CJ Abrams (46) and Isaac Paredes were key low-cost contributors.

Outside of Strider and Glasnow, solid pitching was found in George Kirby (22), Freddy Peralta (25), and Jesus Luzardo (31). A couple of key trades for Werp’s Crew put the icing on the cake. Mitch Keller (13) in Week 8 and Zac Gallen in the last month of the season. The only real weak link was the bullpen, but David Robertson had a few nice weeks.

Six All-stars, MVP, and Cy Young winner is very impressive. Lofton, Barry and Paul – we bow in awe to the newly crowned champion of Lazyman! I suppose you will all submit your own teams next year – you all will have plenty in the bank.

#2 Arrow’s Buenos Huevos (Fortuna, CA)
Full-Year: 7th, First-Half: 1st, Second-Half: 21st

A tale of two seasons in one season for the Good Eggs, who didn’t finish as the top scoring team of any week during the 2023 season, but they put together a very strong first half. Second half injuries hampered efforts at a full season run, or Huevos may have taken the top spot. A total of twelve players missed four weeks or more due to bruises, bumps, and more serious injuries.

Like Werp’s Crew, Bryce Harper was on the roster from opening day. Acuna was acquired just before the end of the first contest, probably enabling the Huevos to take the 1st-Half contest. Corbin Carroll (6) was arguably the biggest star on this team, but other big-time batters included Marcel Ozuna (33), Corey Seager (36), JD Martinez, and the juggernaut at the hot corner in Muncy (44), Josh Jung, and Eugenio Suarez. No super-stud headliners on the pitching staff, but Logan Gilbert (18), George Kirby (22), Joe Ryan (34), and Lance Lynn (40) provided consistent scoring throughout the season. The Eggs didn’t have a great bullpen, but David Robertson had his moments and there were flashes from others.

Dan, you have finished in the prizes three years in a row, at least. Way to go!

#3 Downtown Dachshunds (Seattle, WA)
Full-Year: 2nd, First-Half: 6th, Second-Half: 4th

The Wiener Dogs from the heart of Seattle finished in prize territory in all three contests. The owner launched into his first season of Lazyman with many hour-filled days of hard-core research and in-depth scouting before submitting a roster.

The Dachshunds drafted the number ones on the hill and in the box in Strider and Acuna. The acquisition of Matt Olson in Week 17 provided a huge boost. Luis Castillo (7), George Kirby (22), Freddy Peralta (25), and Yusei Kikuchi (43) provided the team with top notch pitching throughout the season.

If only Shane McClanahan … who pitched for just two weeks after the big trade was in the rotation during the second half, perhaps the Dachshunds could have contended for the title. In total, 13 players were lost by injury for over a month.

A strong bullpen consisting of Carlos Estevez (43), Johan Duran, and Andres Munoz contributed to the team’s success. No one drafted Elly De La Cruz except for the Dachshunds – exclusive Elly provided a huge boost once he brilliantly joined the majors.
Julio Rodriguez (8), Fernando Tatis (32) and Adley Rutschman (48) were also key components in the team’s success.

Jacob, well done! You have accomplished more in one season than many of us have come close to in decades or more.

#4 Passion Warriors (Everett, WA)
Full-Year: 5th, First-Half: 18th, Second-Half: 2
nd

A roller coaster of the season for Passion, but they are not complaining. The Warriors scored the most points in a week a grand total of five times. But other weeks were duds. It really was all about when the top-notch pitching staff had big weeks.

Zac Gallen (3), Pablo Lopez (9), Devin Williams (15), Logan Gilbert (18), Justin Steele (19), George Kirby (22), Kyle Bradish (35) all finished in the top 50 in Lazyman scoring this season. Wow, seven pitchers in the top 35 and six in the top 22 – all on one team!

Kyle Tucker (10), Pete Alonso (16), and Adolis Garcia (18) were the big batters for Passion. But the key acquisition of Matt Olson (2) in Week 16 provided the boost the team needed to contend in the 2nd-Half. The Passion Warriors were also hit by the injury bug, with 11 players missing time of more than four weeks, which resulted in a scramble – Passion dumped 14 players from the opening day roster in trades, second most in the league.

OK, I have been in this league as participant and Commissioner for at least a dozen years. I have finished 6th or 7th a couple of times. This is the first time I have won more than the entry fee. I am pleased – thank you.

My fingertips have calluses, and my efforts are waning. On to the rest of the best …

#5 CAB’s Coolers (Mendocino, CA)
Full-Year: 3rd, First-Half: 8th, Second-Half: 3rd

Sir Charles, congratulations on another fine season! You have been near the top for the last couple of years. And you just missed out being in the prize territory for all three contests.

#6 Roy Hobbs (Bend, OR)
Full-Year: 13th, First-Half: 2nd, Second-Half: 23rd

Outside of one of the pandemic seasons, Hobbs has earned some prizes from in Lazyman, some of those prizes have been significant. Don, well done once again!

#7 Bellzano (Santa Rosa, CA)
Full-Year: 4th, First-Half: 7th, Second-Half: 7th

Always in the top third of the league, Bellzano has now won money in back-to-back seasons and numerous times prior to that. And they finished in the prizes in all three contests – quite the amazing feat. Jim and Johnny, great season!

Others with some prizes coming their way . . .

Miracle Max (Vancouver, WA) – Gary, well done on finishing in the black.

Tanner’s Minions (Bel Aire, CA) – Rich, a bit of dough that should help with those renovations on the homestead.

Meatballs (Mendocino, CA) –  Bruce, a splash of coin in back-to-back years. And so close to finishing with even more.

Giant Bunch of Crazy (Santa Rosa, CA) – Chris, in just your fourth year – nicely done!

I loved all the rule changes in the MLB this season. I thought the game was more fun to watch than it has been in a very long time. Thank you all for your participation and kindness. Please let me know of any suggestions for improvement. Email coming soon. See you next year!

On to the awards …

Week 25: What a Wedding Week!

Numbers have been run through the conclusion of the MLB season. Team pages, Standings, and Leaders are current. Teams in gold atop each of the three contests are currently in prize territory, but nothing is official until I complete a week-by-week audit of the entire season, probably by this coming weekend. Official MLB scoring changes are still being posted as of this afternoon. It seems pretty clear who the top dog will be in each of the contests, but there a few tight races below that where a few points could alter the final standings. Thank you for your patience. The write-up for the entire season that will herald the big winners will be posted after the audit is completed.

The highest scoring team in Week 25 was the Downtown Dachshunds, who just happened to get married on Sunday and probably won’t read this until he returns from his honeymoon in a couple of weeks. The Dachshunds only scored 369 points, but when the average Lazyman team scored 305, it is still a very good week. The team from Seattle managed to climb into 2nd place in the Full-Year contest and 4th place in the Second-Half. Top players included George Kirby (45), Elehuris Montero (37), Elly de la Cruz (35), and Ronald Acuna (35). Jacob, congrats on the great week in Lazyman and the wonderful wedding! Looks like Louie is going to get a new chew toy.

With 364 points, the Flying JJ’s took the silver in the final week of the season, enabling the team to move up a few slots in the standings. As of now, the JJ’s finished in 12th, 13th, and 15th in the three contests, a feat many of us would love to have experienced. Two players went for more than 30 points for the team from Santa Rosa, Logan Webb (36) and Acuna. Jim and Jack, nice way to close the season out.

Two teams finished tied for third highest point total in Week 25 with 362, Arrow’s Buenos Huevos and the Ramblers. The Good Eggs (Fortuna, CA) moved into another potential prize by climbing into 7th in the Full-Year. Remember, this team won the First-Half contest. Kirby, Marcell Ozuna (44), Acuna, Ozzie Albies (33), and Corbin Carroll each scored 30 or more. Dan, the lady did not sing until the very end. Well done! The Ramblers from Las Vegas were led by Kirby, Albies, Carroll and a pitching staff where no one scored below 20 points to end the year on a high note. Jim, nice week.

Week 24: Pine Nuts!

Week 24 Summary: The numbers have been run through the end of Week 24. Standings, Leaders, and team pages are current. Six Lazyman teams managed to exceed 400 points. The Full-Year contest seems to be somewhat certain while the 2nd Half contest has a little more possibility for things to change heading to the last week of the season. Both contests are headlined by Werp’s Crew in first and CAB’s Coolers in second.

Grab Some Pine Nuts! took top honors by scoring 448 points and to move up 10 slots in the 2nd Half standings. The Pine Nuts (Sabastopol, CA) were led by Mike Clevinger (61), JD Martinez (50), Spencer Strider (42), Bryce Harper (40), and five others who tallied 30 or more points. Marc, congrats on the outstanding week!

Cracking the top three for the second week in a row are the Limpid Jets of Love from Battle Ground, WA. The Jets posted 438 points behind Clevinger, Zac Gallen (43), Strider, and Nick Castellanos (48). Three others were north of 30 points. The Jets moved into 6th place in the Full-Year and 10th in the Second-Half. Derek, keep it going!

Taking 3rd on the past week is Beef and Broccoli from Cleveland, OH, with 430 points. B&B also had Clevinger and Strider, while Michael Wacha chipped in with 42 points and three others went for more than 30. B&B moved into 9th place in the Second-Half, 44 points out of prize territory. Matt, great week!

Honorable mention goes to Werp’s Crew (429), Arrow’s Buenos Huevos (423), and Bellzano (419). In the Full-Year, Werp’s Crew holds a commanding lead over CAB’s Coolers in the standings. The real battle is for 7th place with four teams within 26 points of each other. In the Second-Half, Werp’s Crew is 58 points ahead of the Coolers, while the Passion Warriors are 10 points behind CAB. Good luck everyone!

Week 23: Coolers Heat Up

UPDATE 9/23, 8:45 AM. Numbers have been run for the games through Saturday, 9/23. Standings and team pages are current.

Week 23 Summary: Standings, Leaders, and team pages are current through the end of Week 23. Two more weeks! That Second Half crown is going to come down to the wire.

CAB’s Coolers get the headlines for Week 23 by piling up 419 points. An ace in Brandon Woodruff (59), solid pitching, and timely hitting brought the club from Mendocino into 2nd place in the Full Year contest and 3rd in the Second Half, only 15 points behind the leader. Charles, great week!

Finishing the week with the silver and bronze medals are the Limpid Jets of Love and Fungoed Martians, scoring 406 and 403 respectively. Crash Davis would be proud! The Jets moved into 10th in the Full Year and and 14th in the Half. The Martians climbed into a tie for 7th and into 11th. Both teams are from Battle Ground, WA. Both teams featured Juan Soto and his big tally of 53 points and a few players that scored over 30. And, both teams are owned by the same person. Derek, congratulations on the fabulous week and the potential to earn some prizes.
